The STENTYS disconnectable stent design allows the creation of a custom opening AFTER the stent is implanted: the stent provides access to significant side branches and conforms to complex non-cylindrical anatomy. The interconnectors are placed all along the length and the circumference of the stent.
The STENTYS procedure is performed in three simple steps, like a “provisional” procedure:
1. The STENTYS stent is implanted in the main vessel over a single wire, like a standard stent, without any specific positioning related to the side branch;
2. If access or treatment of the side branch is required, a guidewire and a balloon are advanced through the distal stent cell;
3. A low pressure balloon inflation disconnects the interconnectors and creates the opening - the self-apposing property of the STENTYS stent allows the in situ modeling of the stent to fit the patient’s unique arterial anatomy;
4. The self-apposing property of the STENTYS stent allows the in site modeling of the stent to fit the patient's unique arterial anatomy.
